HISTORY OF THE RACE: The German Shepherd Dog is the largest breed in the world and has its origins in the breeding program that Max Von Stephanitz started at the end of the last century. Using long- haired, short-haired dogs and hard hair from Wurtenberg, Thuringia and Bavaria, Von Stephanitz and other dedicated breeders, they created the elegant, enthusiastic, obedient and handsome German Shepherd Dog. Until 1915, both the long hair variety and the hard hair variety were exposed. Currently, in many countries, only the short-haired variety is recognized for exhibition competitions.
