When visiting Fiji, because there are so many different islands, it’s good to have a bit of of geographic knowledge to understand where you can get to with ease from where you are staying. The Mamanucas are a group of islands that feature heavenly beaches and coral cays with names as exotic as the locations themselves. North of the Mamanucas lies the Yasawa Islands, which are a group of larger, volcanic islands where you can find budget beach resorts as well as high end boutique accommodation. Very popular with families are the beach resorts of the Coral Coast on the southern coast of Viti Levu, about an hour’s drive from Nadi. Inland from the Coral Coast lies the pristine heart of Viti Levu which is packed with hiking trails and climbing options for Mount Tomanivi. Vanua Levu, which is Fiji’s second largest island,, is located in the northern part of the spectacular group of islands of Fiji. Its south coast features the spectacular sailing anchorage Savusavu and to its east is Taveuni, which is known as Fiji’s “Garden Island”, half of which is protected national parks perfect for rainforest hikes and nature at its best.
