The National Wildlife Refuge Caño Black is located between the cantons of Guatuso Upala and Los Chiles, in the north of the country. It was created in 1984 and has since been considered one of the most important in the conservation of wildlife. In 1991 it was declared a RAMSAR site third worldwide for the number of birds which feed them to both resident and migratory. Also in 2007 he joined with other country s protected areas of the Biosphere Reserve Water and Peace declared by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
